Chief Commercial Officer
The Position
AFRIpads is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) to lead their fast-growing market segments supplying reusable menstrual products to non-governmental organizations and multilateral organizations (ex. UNICEF, UNFPA, etc.) across Eastern and Southern Africa, along with end-user sales and distribution in Uganda and Kenya. The CCO position will be responsible for all aspects of both local and global sales, growing existing partnerships and opportunities in East Africa, and leading business development strategy across Southern, Central and West Africa.
Your key responsibilities are:
- Manage large portfolio of existing customers and partners
- Develop, execute and refine strategy to support and grow key partnerships with INGOs and UN-Agencies across AFRIpads’ key markets (Uganda, Kenya, South Sudan, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Ethiopia, and Democratic Republic of Congo)
- Utilize AFRIpads’ Global Long-Term Agreements (LTAs) with IOM and UNFPA/UNICEF to leverage UN-based sales across Africa
- Maintain detailed and active information input to the Client Relations Manager (CRM)
- Oversee and grow AFRIpads’ end-user sales with our well recognized brand, So Sure, across Uganda and Kenya
- Lead pan-African business development strategy
- Develop a business development strategy together with the existing team to grow our footprint in new regions (Southern, Central and West Africa), and markets such as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
- Overcome obstacles that hinder growth such as logistical import barriers, product standards limitation and working through distributors to achieve maximum potential for growth and impact
- Analyze and improve our marketing strategies for business growth in both NGO and end-consumer sales.
- Provide leadership to the teams that drive sales across the company
- Build upon, support, and provide exceptional leadership to the existing sales and marketing teams, including strategy, targets, compensation and commissions structures
- Support team development by performing regular reviews and trainings, retaining high performing team members, and trouble-shooting low performing sales regions
Job Requirements
- 10 to 15 years relevant working experience, of which 5 were spent in a senior management role and at least one senior role focused on sales and marketing, with strong, quantifiable results.
- Experience working on the ground in Africa across both commercial and non-governmental sectors in commercial sales.
- Strong financial acumen or a good understanding of financial statements
- Proven experience and a passion for motivating and leading teams to deliver on ambitious goals within a commercial sales environment.
- Experience managing a multi-cultural team across regions.
- Resilient and resourceful mindset, collaborative nature, entrepreneurial spirit – believing in the mission that the local private sector can play a big role in impacting the lives of girls and women.
- Outstanding written and verbal communications skills (English). Fluent in French or Kiswahili is a major plus.
- Passion for social development and economic growth in Africa.
Additional Requirements
- Willingness to travel within and outside Africa (30-40% travel)
- Flexibility with shifting priorities and with taking initiative to implement change further professionalization of the organization
